Coach of the Year Award
A coach of the year award is one of the few prizes at a presentation night that players get to give rather than receive. Rugby, netball, football, swimming and athletics clubs all rely on volunteer coaches, many of whom paid for their own coaching courses, and this is the club's chance to say thank you. Here is how clubs pick a winner and how to word the award.

Coach of the year or coach's award?
These two are easily confused. A coach's award, sometimes called coach's player, is chosen by a coach and given to a player who has impressed them. A coach of the year award goes the other way, to the coach. If you present both on the same evening, make the titles clearly different on line one so nobody picks up the wrong one from the table. Keep a place in your end of season awards for the coaches who plan the sessions and support the team.
Larger clubs often split it further: junior coach of the year, senior coach of the year, or young coach of the year for a teenager who has started helping with the under-8s. Swimming and athletics clubs often add a separate award for officials such as timekeepers and judges.
Choosing the winner
At junior level, the most useful input usually comes from parents and players. A short nomination form asking what the coach did this season tends to give better evidence than a show of hands. Results count for less than you might think: the netball coach who kept an under-12 team together after half the squad moved up an age group may deserve it more than the one who won the league.
In senior sections the committee usually decides, often guided by the captains. Judging on player development, inclusion and commitment rather than trophies keeps the award fair across teams of different standards.

Wording for coaching awards
Line one: COACH OF THE YEAR, or something more specific like JUNIOR COACH OF THE YEAR. Line two: the club name, or the section if that means more, for example U14 GIRLS or MINI RUGBY. Line three: the coach's name. Line four: the season, 2025/26 for winter sports, or a single year for summer sports such as cricket and athletics.
Longer titles such as VOLUNTEER COACH OF THE YEAR still fit on one line, and you can see exactly how they sit under your crest as you type.
Ordering alongside the players' awards
Coaching awards normally go in the same order as the squad awards. A junior football or rugby age group might take a dozen or more small player awards at £8.99 each, with the coach of the year as a Large block at £13.99 so it stands out. Where an age group has two or three coaches, each can have their own award with their own name and the same crest.
If your club's crest is a modern wordmark, as many athletics and triathlon clubs use, upload it as a wide transparent PNG and check how it sits above the text before you add it to your basket.

Questions
Can we thank every coach, not just one winner?
Yes. Many clubs give every volunteer coach a small block and present one Large coach of the year award. Use the same crest for all of them and add each coach's name in turn, or paste the whole list using the bulk names option.
What do we put on the award for a team with joint coaches?
You can make one award per coach, or put both names on line three if they are short. If the names are long, two separate awards look neater, and each coach has their own to take home after the presentation.
Can the award show our junior section logo instead of the club crest?
Yes. Upload whichever logo you want to appear at the top, as a PNG or JPG. A transparent PNG works best. If the logo is white, we can print a dark backing panel behind it so it stays visible on the clear glass.
Is there a minimum order?
The minimum order is 5 awards, and sizes and designs can be mixed freely. Small awards are £8.99 each, Large are £13.99, and delivery is a flat £10.00 per order whatever the quantity.
