Rowing End of Season Awards

Rowing end of season awards have a quirk most sports don't share: the unit is the crew, so a win in an eight means nine people to recognise, cox included. Most rowing clubs hold their awards at an autumn dinner once the regatta season is over. Our printed glass awards carry your club crest in full colour with up to four lines of text, so every seat in the boat can have its own named award.

The rowing year

The rowing year splits into two halves. Head races, the long processional time trials, run through autumn, winter and early spring. Regattas, with side-by-side racing over a set course, run from May through to late summer.

Most clubs see the end of the regatta season as the end of their year and hold a club dinner or prize-giving in September or October, before the new intake of novices arrives. Junior sections tied to schools may prefer to present before the summer holidays.

Awards rowing clubs give

Common titles include senior rower of the year, novice of the year, junior rower of the year and masters rower of the year. Coxswain of the year deserves its own place, since the cox steers, calls the race and is often overlooked. Most improved rower and a club captain's award round out the list.

Crew awards for regatta or head race wins are popular, especially when a crew won its first event. Many clubs also run an indoor rowing machine challenge over the winter, which gives a simple, measurable award, and a boatman or volunteer award thanks whoever kept the fleet afloat.

Crests and blade colours

Rowing clubs are known by their blade colours as much as their crests, and many crests feature crossed oars, a river, a bridge or a heraldic shield. Older clubs' badges can be very detailed, so upload the largest file you have. Full colour printing means your blade colours appear accurately in the crest. A white crest on transparent can sit on a dark backing panel.

Wording for crews and seats

For a crew award, give every member the same design: event title on line one, such as WOMEN'S NOVICE EIGHT, the club on line two, the rower's name on line three and the seat and year on line four, for example STROKE or COX. Because the regatta season sits within one summer, most clubs use the single year.

An eight plus cox is nine awards, which already meets the minimum of 5 on its own. Set up the design once, then paste the crew list using the bulk option so each award carries its own name. Large awards suit individual titles such as rower of the year, and small awards suit crew wins. Use the live on-screen mock-up to check that long event names fit.

Questions

Should the cox get a crew award too?

Yes. The cox is a full member of the crew and usually receives the same award as the rowers, with COX on the seat line. Many clubs also give a separate coxswain of the year award.

How do we fit a long event name like MASTERS D COXED FOUR?

Split it across two lines, for example the event on line one and WINNERS on line two, leaving the remaining lines for the name and seat. The live on-screen mock-up shows how it will sit on the glass.

Can we include an indoor rowing time?

Yes. For an indoor rowing challenge, add the time and distance to the last line, for example 2K 6:48.3. Keep it short so it stays clear beneath the rower's name.

How long does an order take to arrive?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days Delivery is a flat £10.00 per order, so it is worth combining crew awards and individual titles in one order before your club dinner.
