Rugby Union Man of the Match Award
A rugby union man of the match award has a tradition all of its own. In community rugby it is often chosen by the opposition and announced in the clubhouse after the game, which is a small piece of the sport's culture worth keeping. This page covers single-match awards for cup finals and festivals, as well as season-long awards for the player who collected the most match honours.

Rugby union end of season awards: the opposition's choice
At many clubs the away team's captain or coach picks the home side's man of the match, and the home side returns the favour, with both named over food in the clubhouse. It is a sporting habit that marks rugby out from other codes.
For an ordinary league game the prize is usually a pint or a jug. For a cup final, a centenary fixture or a charity match, a printed award with both the club crest and the occasion is something the winner will actually keep.
Cup finals, festivals and tournaments
County cup finals and sevens tournaments are the natural places for a man of the match award, along with player of the match for women's and junior finals. Ordering a set in advance means the award is ready to hand over on the day.
Because every line is optional, you can print the crest, MAN OF THE MATCH and the fixture, such as County Cup Final, and leave the recipient line blank. That suits a cup run where you do not know the winner in advance, though nothing can be added to the glass afterwards.
Turning match awards into a season award
Some clubs keep a tally of man of the match nominations through the year and present an end-of-season award to whoever collected the most. It rewards consistency, and because the votes came from opponents it is hard to argue with.
For this version, print MOST MAN OF THE MATCH AWARDS or simply MAN OF THE MATCH on line one, the player's name on line three and the team and season, for example 1st XV 2025/26, on line four. Keep the count itself in the speech rather than on the award.
Wording and ordering
For a one-off match award, line four works well for the occasion and opponent, such as v Old Boys RFC, Cup Final. Some clubs prefer PLAYER OF THE MATCH for mixed or junior sides, and that is equally easy to set up on line one.
The Small square block at £8.99 suits match awards, and the minimum order is five. A club with several finals in a season can design one award, then add each fixture using the same crest. Delivery is a flat £10.00 per order.

Questions
Can we order man of the match awards before we know the winners?
Yes. Every line is optional, so you can print the crest, title and fixture and leave the name off. The text is printed onto the glass, so a name cannot be added afterwards. Most clubs are happy with the occasion alone for a one-off final.
We have a women's final too. Can we mix titles in one order?
Yes. Designs can be mixed freely, so you can have MAN OF THE MATCH for one final and PLAYER OF THE MATCH for another in the same order, all with the same crest, which only needs uploading once.
Can we put both clubs' crests on the award?
The award carries one crest or logo at the top. For a final, most clubs use their own crest and name the opposition on line four. A competition logo is another option if the organisers are happy for you to use it.
How long does delivery take?
Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days For a cup final, order once the fixture is confirmed so the awards are ready for the day. Delivery is a flat £10.00 per order.
