Glass awards

School Sports Day Awards

School sports day awards are usually organised by one busy PE teacher in the last few weeks of the summer term, somewhere between reports, fixtures and a trip or two. Our personalised glass blocks give the headline winners something more lasting than a sticker or a ribbon: the school crest printed in full colour, with the award title, house or year group and the pupil's name underneath. They are made in Cornwall and ordered online in one go.

Which awards a sports day actually needs

Most schools keep ribbons or stickers for individual race placings, because there are hundreds of them. Glass works better for the handful of awards that sum up the day or the year: the winning house, victor ludorum and victrix ludorum for the highest-scoring boy and girl, and a sports day champion for each key stage or year group. If you also organise end of season awards for school teams, you can include both sets of designs in one order.

Many PE departments also use the same order for the end-of-year prize-giving assembly, adding sportsperson of the year, a sporting spirit award and recognition for team captains. Grouping both into one order makes sense, as the minimum is 5 awards and delivery is a flat £10.00 however many you add.

Working around the timing of sports day

The difficulty with sports day is that the winners are only known on the afternoon itself, and house points may not be totted up until the next morning. If you want trophies handed out at a closing assembly that same week, order them without names. Line 1 can be the award title, line 2 the school name and line 3 the year group, with the winner announced as it is presented.

If the presentation is at the end-of-term assembly a few weeks later, you have time to wait for results and order with each pupil's name. Check the delivery timings on the order page before relying on this, and allow for the school office receiving the parcel during a hectic week.

Wording for houses, year groups and key stages

School award names are often longer than club ones, so keep each line tight. VICTOR LUDORUM fits easily on line 1, while a title like Year 6 Sports Day Champion reads better as SPORTS DAY CHAMPION on line 1 with Year 6 on a line of its own. For house awards, the house name can sit on the recipient line, for example Nelson House, in place of a pupil's name.

Use the academic year format, such as 2025/26, if an award covers the whole school year, or a single year if it is purely for one sports day. Check pupils' names against the register, including hyphenated surnames and preferred spellings, before you paste the list.

School crests and choosing sizes

School badges range from modern academy trust logos to traditional shields with a Latin motto. Upload the largest version the school office holds, ideally a transparent PNG from the original branding files rather than a copy saved from the website. If the logo is white, we can add a dark backing panel so it shows on the glass.

A sensible split is large blocks for victor and victrix ludorum and the winning house, and small blocks for year group champions. The house trophy can then live in reception or the sports hall, while individual pupils take theirs home.

Good to know

Questions

Can we order sports day awards before we know the winners?

Yes. Every line on the award is optional, so you can print the crest, the award title, the school name and the year group, and leave the name line blank. That lets you hand the awards over at the closing assembly straight after the event.

What is the difference between victor ludorum and victrix ludorum?

Victor ludorum is Latin for winner of the games and traditionally goes to the boy with the most points across the sports day events. Victrix ludorum is the equivalent for the girl with the most points. Many schools award one of each per year group or key stage.

Can we use our academy trust logo instead of the school crest?

Yes. Upload whichever logo the school uses on its letters and kit, as a PNG or JPG. A transparent PNG gives the cleanest result. The design appears on a photo of the award as you type, so it is easy to compare which logo reads better.

How long will delivery take?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days Order in good time before the end of the summer term, as school offices can be closed or short-staffed in the final week and you will want time to check the awards before the assembly.
