Bowls Singles, Pairs and Triples Winners Award

A bowls singles, pairs and triples winners award set covers the heart of a club's competition programme. Each discipline asks for something different: the singles is a test of one bowler, while pairs and triples depend on a lead, a skip and, in triples, a number two working together. Getting the awards right means giving every member of a winning team their own.

Bowls end of season awards: how the disciplines differ

In singles each player bowls four woods. In pairs, the lead and skip usually bowl four woods each. In triples, the lead, number two and skip usually bowl three woods each, and in fours, each of the four players bowls two. Clubs often run the team events as knockouts drawn early in the season, with entries made as fixed teams.

Some clubs also run drawn pairs or triples, where partners are picked out of a hat. These are often more social, but the winners still deserve something to take home.

Working out how many awards you need

It is easy to undercount. Singles needs one award per winner, pairs two, triples three and fours four. Add runners-up and the totals climb: a club recognising winners and runners-up in men's and ladies' singles, pairs and triples needs 24 awards before any other competition.

A tidy approach is a large block for each singles champion and small blocks for every pairs and triples player. Every award can still carry its own name, so nobody shares a keepsake.

Wording for team event winners

Give each player an award with their own name rather than listing the whole team on every block. Line 1 is the event, such as "PAIRS WINNERS" or "LADIES' TRIPLES WINNERS". Line 2 can list the position, "Skip", "Lead" or "Number Two", which bowlers tend to appreciate. Line 3 is the player and line 4 the year.

If you would rather show the team, use line 3 for the bowler's own name and line 2 for their partners, for example "with A. Pascoe and M. Rowe". Keep it short so it reads clearly.

Ordering after finals day

Finals day produces a lot of names at once, and the presentation dinner is often only a few weeks later. Ask the competition secretary for the completed draw sheets, then use the bulk option to paste the names in, rather than typing each one. The badge only needs uploading once. Check spellings with each skip, as bowlers who have played together for years can still be surprised to see a name spelt wrongly.

It also helps to agree one format for every team award before you start, for example always the event on line 1, the position on line 2, the name on line 3 and the year on line 4. A consistent layout makes the whole table of prizes look like a set when they are laid out on the night, and it makes checking the list much quicker.

Questions

Does every player in a winning triple get an award?

Most clubs give one to each player, so a triples win means three awards. Each one can carry the bowler's own name and position, all within the same order.

Can we use the bulk option for lots of names?

Yes. After your first design, you can paste a list of names and each becomes its own award with the same badge and wording. You can then adjust any individual line as needed.

Should runners-up have the same size as winners?

That is up to the club. Many use the same small block for all team event places and change only line 1 to "RUNNERS-UP". Sizes can be mixed freely in one order.

How long will delivery take?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days With finals day in late summer and presentations in autumn, there is normally enough time, but order once the names are confirmed rather than waiting until the week of the dinner.
