Hockey Top Scorer Award
A hockey top scorer award is one of the few end-of-season prizes decided by the numbers rather than a vote. Goals in hockey only count from inside the shooting circle, and a good share come from penalty corners, so the leading scorer is often a forward with quick hands around the D or a drag-flicker who takes the corners. Here is how clubs settle it and what to put on the award.

Hockey end of season awards: how clubs work out the top scorer
Most clubs count league goals only, taken from match cards or the team's results on the league system. Some add cup and friendly goals, which can change the order, so agree the rule before the season ends rather than at the last committee meeting.
Ties are common in lower teams, where totals are smaller. Clubs often split it by fewer games played, or simply give two awards. With a minimum order of 5 and the freedom to mix designs, adding a second name costs one extra block rather than a whole new order.
One per team or one for the club
Larger clubs usually give a top scorer award to each side, from the men's and ladies' 1st XI down to the development teams, and sometimes a club-wide golden stick for the highest total overall. Junior sections may prefer to recognise scorers by age group, especially at U10 and U12 level where small-sided games produce lots of goals.
A sensible split is small blocks for each team's top scorer and one large block for the overall club top scorer, if you run one.

Wording ideas for a top scorer award
Line 1 is the title, such as "TOP SCORER" or "TOP GOALSCORER". Line 2 can carry the team, for example "Men's 3rd XI", and line 3 the player's name. Use line 4 for the season, "2025/26".
Some clubs like to put the tally on the award, for example "23 Goals" on line 3 next to the name or on its own line in place of the team. It reads well, but only do it if you are confident in the count, as a wrong number is the one thing players will notice straight away.
Where it sits in the evening
The top scorer award is a good one to read out early in each team's slot, because it is factual and uncontroversial. Save the voted awards, players' player and clubperson of the year, for later in the night when the room is listening.
Upload your crest once, then use "same crest, new name" to add each team's scorer without starting again.
It also helps to give the person who keeps the stats a deadline. Ask each captain to send their team's top scorer and total by the end of the last league weekend, and check them against the published results. That way the order goes in with every name correct and nobody is chasing figures during the week of the dinner.

Questions
Do penalty strokes and penalty corner goals count towards the total?
Yes, in normal practice every goal counts, however it was scored. A penalty corner goal or a converted penalty stroke is a goal like any other. Clubs that want to recognise open-play scoring sometimes run a separate award.
Can we put the number of goals on the award?
You can. Any of the four lines can carry the total, such as "31 Goals". Check the figure with the team captain before you order, because the text prints exactly as you type it.
What if two players finish level?
Many clubs simply give two awards with the same title and different names. Add the second name with "same crest, new name" and it joins the same order at the same price per award.
When should we order for an April presentation?
Order once the last league goals are confirmed and the names are agreed. Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days Leave yourself a little margin for late changes to the awards list.
