Netball Young Player of the Season Award

A netball young player of the season award picks out the stand-out junior or youth player at your club. Netball clubs often have teenagers playing in adult league teams alongside their own age-group squads, and this award recognises talent and commitment across both. The first job is defining who is eligible, because every club draws that line slightly differently.

Netball end of season awards: who counts as a young player

Some clubs mean players under 18 who have played in adult teams. Others mean the best player across the whole junior section, from under-12s to under-16s. A few run two awards, one for juniors and one for youth players stepping into senior netball.

Write the eligibility down and share it with coaches before nominations open. It saves arguments over whether a 17-year-old in the first team should compete with a 12-year-old who dominated her age group.

Whatever you decide, keep it the same from year to year so the list of winners means something.

How the winner is chosen

With players across several teams, this is normally a committee or coaching panel decision rather than a vote. Each junior coach nominates one player with a short reason, and the panel compares them.

Things worth weighing include progress across the season, performance when stepping up to adult netball, selection for county or regional pathway squads, attitude at training and helping with younger groups. A player who coaches the under-10s on a Saturday morning is showing exactly the commitment clubs want.

Umpiring counts as well. Many clubs encourage teenagers to take umpiring qualifications, and a young player who has started umpiring junior matches while still playing is contributing to the club twice over.

Wording that will last

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON is long, so check it on the design view. Many clubs use it on line one at a slightly smaller size, or choose JUNIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR instead. Line two is the club name, line three the player's name and line four the season, such as 2025/26.

Use the full name the family uses, and check with a parent if you are unsure of spelling. For a young player this award may stay on display for a long time.

Making it stand out

As a club-wide honour with a single winner, this award suits the Large portrait block at £13.99, which gives the title and logo more space. Team awards for juniors can be Small at £8.99 in the same order.

Upload the logo once, add the young player alongside every other winner using the same logo, and the whole order ships for a flat £10.00. The minimum is five awards, which most clubs pass easily once team awards are included.

Some clubs keep a list of past winners on the clubhouse noticeboard or website, which gives younger players something to aim for.

Questions

Can we have separate young player awards for juniors and youth?

Yes. Print JUNIOR PLAYER OF THE SEASON on one and YOUTH PLAYER OF THE SEASON on another, or use the same title with the age range on line four. Designs can be mixed freely across the order.

Will a long title like young player of the season fit?

It fits on line one, although the text sits smaller than a short title would. The design view shows your wording on a photo of the award as you type, so you can try alternatives such as YOUNG PLAYER before ordering.

Should we put the age group on the award?

If the award is open to the whole junior section, the age group is not essential. If it is specific, such as for under-16s, line four works well for U16 and the season together, for example U16 2025/26.

How long does delivery take?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days Delivery is a flat £10.00 per order however many awards are included, so order the young player award alongside your team awards. Order once the panel has decided.
