Football Golden Glove Award

The football golden glove award goes to the season's best goalkeeper. Keepers play a different game from everyone else on the pitch, and outfield awards rarely go their way, so this one makes sure the player who spent the winter diving about in the mud gets proper recognition. We print it on glass in full colour, with your club crest at the top and the keeper's name underneath.

Football end of season awards: why keepers need their own award

A goalkeeper can make three saves that win a match and still be left out of the player of the match conversation because the striker scored. Over a season, that adds up. Many grassroots clubs struggle to find anyone willing to go in goal at all, so thanking the one who does is good sense as well as good manners.

In a club with one regular keeper per team, the golden glove is effectively a goalkeeper of the season award. In a bigger club, it can go to the best keeper across every side.

Clean sheets or judgement

The professional version is decided on clean sheets, and some clubs copy that. The trouble is that clean sheets depend heavily on the defence in front of the keeper. A busy keeper behind a struggling back four can have an excellent season and very few clean sheets.

Most grassroots clubs blend the two: count the clean sheets, then let the manager or goalkeeping coach make the final decision based on saves, distribution, communication and how the keeper handled the bad days.

Keepers also tend to make one mistake that everyone remembers. A fair judge looks past it to the dozens of routine catches, brave dives at feet and organised back fours that nobody mentions. If your club has a goalkeeping coach who works with keepers across several teams, they are often the best person to make the call, because they see each keeper in training as well as on matchday.

Golden glove in junior football

In younger age groups, coaches often rotate the gloves so every child has a go in goal, which means there is no single keeper to reward. A golden glove makes more sense once a team has a settled goalkeeper, usually from around under-11s or under-12s.

For younger squads, a GOALKEEPER AWARD given to everyone who took a turn in goal is a friendly alternative that encourages children to volunteer.

Wording and layout

GOLDEN GLOVE is short and sits neatly as the first line. Add the club name on line two, the keeper on line three and the season on line four. If clean sheets were the deciding factor, add the number, for example 2025/26 - 12 CLEAN SHEETS.

A small block at £8.99 is the usual choice, ordered alongside the outfield awards from the same design so the crest matches across the set.

Questions

What if our two keepers shared the season?

Order two golden glove awards with the same wording and different names, or use GOALKEEPER OF THE SEASON for both. Sharing the gloves fairly over a season is worth recognising in its own right.

Can an outfield player who went in goal win it?

There is no rule against it. If an outfield player covered a long injury spell in goal and did well, some clubs would see that as a good reason to give them the award.

Should we call it golden gloves or golden glove?

Golden glove, singular, is the more common name in the UK game. Golden gloves is also used. Pick one and keep it the same each season so the awards line up.

How long does delivery take?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days Order once the manager has confirmed the winner, ideally as soon as the last league game is played, and include the golden glove in the same order as the outfield awards.
