Football Player of the Match Award

A football player of the match award is the only trophy on this list that is handed out during the season rather than at the end of it. Most grassroots teams pick one every week, and many keep a running count that feeds into the end of season awards. A glass block printed with your crest in full colour turns that weekly moment into something worth keeping.

Football end of season awards: who picks the player of the match

In a lot of grassroots football, especially in junior leagues, the opposition manager chooses your player of the match and you choose theirs. It is a small act of sportsmanship and it takes the decision away from the home coach. Other teams leave the choice to the manager, a parent helper or the match sponsor.

Whatever your team does, keep a note of each week's winner. By May you will have a ready-made record for player of the season or a most player of the match awards trophy.

For young players, try to spread the picks over a season without making it feel like a rota. A child who has never been chosen will remember the week it finally happens, so look for the small things: a brave block, a good pass, a quiet player who kept going in a heavy defeat. Explaining the reason when you hand it over teaches the whole squad what the team values.

Awards without names for weekly use

Every text line on our awards is optional, so you can order a batch of blocks with just the crest, PLAYER OF THE MATCH and the season, and no recipient name. The manager then has an award ready to hand over at full time.

With a minimum order of 5, a small batch covers a cup run or the run-in to the end of the league season. Small blocks at £8.99 are the natural size for weekly presentations.

Cup finals, tournaments and big games

Some teams save the glass award for the matches that matter most: county cup finals, league deciders, derby games or summer tournaments. Here a named award works well. Order once the date is fixed, with the match on line four, such as CUP FINAL v your opponent's name.

A large block at £13.99 suits a final, where the award is presented in front of a crowd and photographed for the club's social media.

Wording choices

PLAYER OF THE MATCH is the inclusive version and suits mixed and girls' teams. MAN OF THE MATCH is still used by some adult men's sides. For a season-long tally, try MOST PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARDS, with the number on line four.

Design the first award, then use the same crest for the rest of the batch without uploading it again.

Questions

Can we order blank-name awards to fill in later?

We print the design you set up, so names cannot be added afterwards. Ordering with the name line left empty gives you a clean award to hand out each week with the title and season only.

Is it fair for the opposition to choose?

Many junior leagues encourage it. It removes any sense of favouritism, models good sportsmanship for the children and often goes to a hardworking player the home coach might overlook.

Could we use these for a five-a-side tournament?

Yes. Put the tournament name on the club line or line four, and order player of the tournament and match awards in the same basket, mixing sizes as needed.

When will a cup final award arrive?

Made in Cornwall and delivered within 7 days For a final, order as soon as your team qualifies so the awards are ready for the day. If the final is close to the semi, leave the name line empty and present it on the day.
