Football Top Goalscorer and Golden Boot Award

The football top goalscorer and golden boot award is the simplest one on the presentation list to decide: count the goals and the highest number wins. In practice, a few rules need sorting before the season ends, or the count can turn into an argument. Our glass awards carry your crest in full colour, with room for the title, club, scorer's name and their tally.

Football end of season awards: top goalscorer or golden boot

The two names mean the same thing at most clubs. Golden boot has a bit more ceremony to it, borrowed from the professional game, while top goalscorer is plain and clear. Some clubs use both: golden boot for the first team and top scorer for other sides.

Unlike the voted awards, nobody can dispute the winner once the counting rules are clear. That makes it a good award to read out early in the evening.

Deciding what counts

Agree in advance whether cup goals count, whether friendlies are included and whether the count covers only one team or every side the player turned out for. Most clubs count league and cup competitive fixtures only.

Keep your own tally from match reports through the season. Many league results systems record scores but not scorers, so there is often no official record to fall back on. A shared spreadsheet updated after each game saves a lot of head-scratching in May.

Goalmouth scrambles are the classic source of disputes. Settle them on the day, with the manager's word final, and post the running total in the team group chat every few weeks. If anyone thinks they have been missed, they will say so early, rather than at the presentation. For clubs with several adult sides, decide whether a player who scored for both the first team and the reserves gets a combined total or two separate entries.

Junior football and goal counting

At mini-soccer ages, from under-7s to under-11s, the FA does not want league tables published, and many coaches avoid goal tallies too, because young players develop best by trying different positions. A golden boot for an under-8 can push children to stay up front.

From under-12s upwards, scoring awards become more common in junior clubs. Even then, some sections pair the top scorer award with an assist or creative player award, so the players who set up the goals are recognised too.

Putting the tally on the glass

The number is the part players remember, so put it on the award. Use GOLDEN BOOT or TOP GOALSCORER on line one, the club on line two, the name on line three and something like 2025/26 - 27 GOALS on line four.

If two players finish level, order two identical awards with JOINT TOP SCORER as the title. Small blocks at £8.99 suit a team's top scorer, while a club-wide golden boot across every adult side might justify a large block at £13.99.

Questions

Do penalties count towards the golden boot?

Yes, at almost every club. Penalties are goals in the official score. If your club wants a different rule, agree it before the season starts and tell the squad so the count is not challenged later.

What about own goals in our favour?

Own goals go down as own goals rather than being credited to the nearest attacker. Leave them out of your tally and nobody can complain the count was inflated.

Can we give an award for most assists as well?

Yes. MOST ASSISTS or PLAYMAKER OF THE SEASON can go on line one, with the assist count on line four. It sits naturally next to the golden boot in the same order.

What does delivery cost?

Delivery is a flat £10.00 per order, whatever the quantity. The minimum order is 5 awards, and small and large can be mixed, so the golden boot can go in with every other award.
